The third of the Victoria models will be a functional, highly-detailed, hopefully near-authentic 1/25 scale slot car. I want to explore the possibilities of creating a highly-detailed, 1/25 scale 1957 Ford Victoria model that can be “driven” on a slot track.

Historically, there were “early” modelers that attempted to merge very good static building efforts with a functional slot feature.

Earl Symonds, in 1965, did a great job of attempting to merge a very good quality static model with a vintage Revell slot car motor and a fair degree of brass scratchbuilding. But note that he was hampered by being required to use a large nylon slot guide and commercially-available wheels and a pre-naturally large electric motor. Earl was limited by budget or access to readily available and relative inexpensive parts.

But what if modern scale machining techniques, contemporary computer technology and modern craftsmanship standards were brought to bear? What about a realistic machined wheels and cast tires? What about a miniature electric motor and a tiny slot guide that could be snapped in and out of the bottom of a scratchbuilt/realistic brass frame? What about the model giving off the sounds of a scale V8, ramping up and down the rpm range, in direct cadence to the speed of the model on the track? And what if the model, while on the track, would accelerate and decelerate in accordance with the laws of 1:1 physics and achieved realistic scale speeds (instead of the insane speeds common among most slot cars)?

I intend to pursue these goals and will call upon those craftsmen and consultants whose work I can commission. Yes, this is an insane project, but I want to advocate the possibility of merging sophisticated static building with equally sophisticated slot car technology.

The Monogram/Revell Shelby Cobra Daytona coupe is incredible. It’s hard to believe that such comprehensive, in-scale detail could be mass produced in 1/32 scale.

The Round 2 1/25 scale slot cars are also great. The scale fidelity is astonishing!
