With some time off for Thanksgiving (and just to take a break), we got back to work on the Vicky. At this point, catalyzed primer-surfacer was applied to the front clip had set up and was ready for block sanding: The fenders were block sanded, guide-coated, and sanded again. After going through this process three times, we stored the fenders for the time when they, and the blue areas on the body, will be resprayed all at the same time.

Once the primer-surfacer had thoroughly cured, it was time for block sanding with 150-paper, used dry. This stage of sanding reveals issues that couldn’t be easily discovered any other way, like the small divets in the leading edge of the top of the front fender that had been previously modified.

Sanding on the lower side of the passenger front fender also revealed a high spot just forward of the lower part of the fender. The inside of the fender, and all “wrap around surfaces” (including the flange through which the bolt is passed) will be finished to the same degree as the outside of the sheetmetal. The inside of the fender will also be painted – the latter half of the panel can be seen when the hood is lifted.

Further sanding on the passenger fender revealed some low spots on the lower side of the front of the fender, around the wheel well, and back by the door opening. Small amounts of the finely-grained Evercoat polyester putty were laid down to fill slight surface problems.
